A study to be published in Jan 2012 Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health by McMaster University researchers have found consistent evidence that use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is associated with breast cancer globally. A landmark study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AJOG) found women with a short cervix treated with vaginal progesterone showed a decreased rate of preterm birth by 42%, and significantly reduced the rate of respiratory distress syndrome and the need for mechanical ventilation, as well as a composite of several complications of premature newborns (e.g. infection, necrotizing enterocolitis, intracranial hemorrhage, etc.).

The FDA and the Federal Trade Commission today took joint action against several companies selling over-the-counter hCG products that falsely and illegally claim to promote weight loss.
Labeled "homeopathic" by the seven companies who received the letters, the products contain human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone produced during pregnancy by cells that form the placenta.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Minnesota and North Dakota went undercover this summer after concerns were raised about a St. Louis Park hormone therapy clinic.
The BBB says it "secret shopped" the company, HRC Medical Center, Inc., a clinic offering bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, to investigate the company's claims and intake processes.
Mylan Gets License To Sell Generic of Novartis's Vivelle-Dot Menopause Drug
Mylan Inc. (MYL) will receive a license to sell generic versions of Vivelle-Dot, a treatment for menopause symptoms, after settling a patent litigation lawsuit with Novartis AG's (NVS) Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. affiliate.
Pursuant to the agreement, pending litigation will be dismissed and Mylan will receive a license to begin selling generic versions of the product on Dec. 16, 2013, or earlier under certain circumstances.
